TriTerrain — Retro Terrain for all!

Close your eyes an envision a common ROBLOX level/place. Now, what do almost all of these places have in common? Need a hint? Think of the shapes, mostly cubes right? Well, that isn’t fair is it? Most games have amazing flowing terrain while you’re stuck with… squares?

NO LONGER!

Lets take a look at TriTerrain! Most games use something called “tessellation” to create seamless surfaces that have a “texture”. Basically, this is what gives a lot of terrain its “bumpiness”.

Now, compare this to ROBLOX:

Pretty flat huh?

LETS DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

(Well, actually, I already did.)

Introducing…. TriTerrain! TriTerrain is a program I made to solve this program. It’s a little bit harder to use than the last couple programs I’ve made, but, if you can use Roblox Studio, then you should be able to use TriTerrain. TriTerrain gives you some simple tools to generate “flowing” terrain that isn’t flat! You can also use images to generate terrain based on the image (bump mapping), it is still kind of glitchy but works enough to get a decent result. Lets take a look at some results:

Known Bugs:

-Navigating with WASD doesn’t move like you would normally think, instead, it moves along the axis’s.

TRK has been technically “sleeping” lately! Things have picked up with my studies and it is hard to work with everything at once! I will say, however, that I have a new software idea that I think you avid Roblox gui hackers out there will enjoy

A new way to support!

Do you enjoy the content that TRK provides you with? Would you like to see more? I’ve decided to try out a service called “adf.ly”. Its a service that shortens links for you (similar to that of bit.ly and goog.ly). The only difference is that is shows a quick ad in between. I’ll be doing my links on this site with it now. There will be an option every time to avoid using the ad.fly version and use a direct link. Remember though, if you are in a good mood, please click on the adf.ly link to provide me with a little bit of change in my pocket (At no expense to you).

Holiday Coma

As out Holiday Comas slowly fade away, I wanted to post some updates! First of all, Roblox gave us a WONDERFUL holiday season with TONS of gifts. Congrats to those getting the 8 and 16 bit gifts! Plenty of fun adventures for us all (Took me about 8 hours straight to get the 16-bit gift)! I’ve been hooked on Minecraft recently (Just bought a copy) but don’t worry. I’ll continue to play Roblox and update TRK. I’m sure my MC addiction will decrease soon =P

I’m experimenting with a couple new projects. I can’t give details. Don’t want to disappoint anybody if they don’t work. Remember, I have places and other social interactions to keep up, so I wont be able to work on them all day long…. =P

I’ll be posting some “tips for success” for you Robloxian P-P-P-POWER USERS! P-P-P-POWER USERS are players that understand the way Roblox, its scripting, and building work. These tips for success will include content to help get your places noticed by the public =D

The busiest day of the year was October 28th with 56 views. The most popular post that day was the Downloads page.

Hot Off The Developers Express! ImgBrick 3!

Thats right! Already, a new version of ImgBrick is being released to the public! Whats so different between version 2 and version 3?

First off, if you don’t know what ImgBrick is, check out version 2′s blog post here.

I’ve added a brand new feature. Yes, only one. Yes, it will knock your socks off!

Previously, ImgBrick 1 and 2 were forced to make final products with bricks that didn’t quite match the actual color of the original images pixels. This made some images look kind of low quality… we don’t want that.

The new CCFilter actually utilizes something that I found recently that forces the bricks to have the exact RGB values (exact color in laymen terms) of the original images pixels! This new find was so exciting, I had to implement it right away!

2010 Gobbler Event!

Its Thanksgiving and it looks like Roblox just gave us a fun event place! You can see it here! Your job is to survive as a turkey, or, once you have been hunted, become a hunter! The game is decently simple. With some spots to hide as a turkey and a musket to fire as a hunter the game is kind of like a form of hide-and-go-seek!

I went ahead and took some pictures so you could see.

Sadly I didn't find this hiding place until after I was hunted.

Wow, I give a whole new meaning to the term "Well Done".

Amazing Scenery

Sounds like Telamon was having some problems setting up though. The badges are currently just given to you when you come in because the place kept breaking and he gave up. Maybe that will be fixed later. In the meantime, if you want the badges easy, go ahead in!

Wait whats this? I’ll probably be releasing ImgBrick v3 within the next couple days. I’m ironing some last glitches out before I send it on! You guys are going to love its new feature!

Lets talk… UI!

First off, whats a UI? A UI is a “User Interface”. In Roblox, your UI is basically the 2D buttons displayed on your screen (such as report, exit, help, and fullscreen). Looks like we’re getting a new update for our UI soon![1]

The sneak peak shows an amazing, slick and smooth, new UI! Its less cluttered and smaller. Know what that means? More room for scripters to place their own GUI’s!

It probably won’t come out for a while. Sounds like their are some other nice GUI features coming along with it.
